Kazeon Introduces the Information Server IS1200 for Enterprise Information Visibility and Control

Mountain View, CA — October 12, 2005 — Kazeon, the leader in unstructured information management, today announced the general availability of the Kazeon Information Server IS1200. The IS1200 delivers data classification, storage search and automated file management services in a simple-to-manage, integrated information management appliance. Kazeon's breakthrough technology leverages advanced indexing, search and storage management technologies to provide enterprises with unified visibility and consistent control of their distributed files. The Kazeon IS1200 Leading financial services, energy and technology companies are deploying the IS1200 to address information management needs in areas such as storage search, compliance auditing, data privacy and Information Lifecycle Management (ILM).

In a related development, Kazeon today announced an OEM agreement with Network Appliance, Inc. Under the terms of the agreement, Kazeon and NetApp® will integrate the intelligent data classification and search capabilities of Kazeon's Information Server with Network Appliance's complete range of storage systems. Additionally, Network ApplianceTM will resell Kazeon's Information Server as part of a jointly marketed solution.

The majority of unstructured information stored on corporate networks has been practically unmanageable. Enterprises have millions of files, in hundreds of formats, distributed across thousands of file servers. Leaving this data unmanaged increases the risk of regulatory fines, data privacy exposures and spiraling operational costs. The IS1200 is an integrated, easy-to-use appliance that catalogs shared files, classifies and indexes information based on the business value of the file content and provides key information management services such as search, information profile reports, file tagging and data movement.

The Kazeon Information Server IS1200 is an out-of-band, plug-and-play information management appliance that integrates seamlessly with existing infrastructure without impacting existing user behavior or disrupting critical data flows. It supports standard interfaces for UNIX and Windows shared files as well as EMC Centera. A single appliance can manage tens of millions of files and appliance clusters can be deployed to manage hundreds of millions of files. Key features of the IS1200 include:

Storage Search — Kazeon's search technology is optimized for crawling and indexing large, distributed file environments. An IS1200 cluster can be configured to support search and discovery across hundreds of millions of files with less than 5% storage overhead. Kazeon also provides unprecedented facilities for securing and tracking search results so that legal and compliance officials can find what they need without increasing risk or exposure.

Content-aware Data Classification — The IS1200 leverages file content along with metadata and file system attributes to classify information based on business value. The IS1200 recognizes more than 350 common file types such as Word, PowerPoint, Excel, and PDF. The system can also be tailored to recognize any number of custom file and metadata formats through the use of custom extraction rules. As a result, the IS1200 can identify exposed privacy data such as credit card numbers or detect an MP3 file whose extension has been changed.

Policy-based Management — The IS1200 uses classification data to drive a range of data management services including file tagging, copy/move/delete commands and setting retention or encryption policies on supported devices. All actionable services can be automated through scheduled services or interactively through the search and reporting user interface. An IS1200 can be set up to move files with sensitive information to encrypted storage or copy valuable corporate records into a WORM device with the appropriate retention settings.
