Meet Andy Cohen - Our Expert Electronic Discovery Attorney

Mr. Cohen is Vice President, Compliance Solutions as well as Associate General Counsel for EMC Corporation, a Fortune 500 company and the world leader in information storage and management solutions. His legal responsibilities include managing teams within the Legal Department that handle Mergers and Acquisitions, Litigation, Investigations, Employment, and Corporate Compliance responsibilities, including employee training and records and information management. In connection with his responsibilities, Mr. Cohen has implemented best practices in the areas of eDiscovery and litigation hold, records and information management, electronic matter management, and electronic billing.

In addition to his legal responsibilities, Mr. Cohen is responsible for EMC's Global Compliance Solutions Practice. In this capacity, he is leveraging his legal domain expertise, together with EMC’s unique technology stack and market position, to build practical and unique solutions that help solve companies' most acute compliance challenges, including relating to eDiscovery and records and information management, by bridging the gap between Legal, Compliance and IT functions, improving business processes and providing infrastructure solutions for the proactive policy management of information.

Mr. Cohen is a member of the Sedona Conference's working groups on litigation hold, electronic document retention and production, email archiving, and international eDiscovery, and he is on the steering committee of the Open Compliance and Ethics Group. Mr. Cohen has written numerous articles and given numerous presentations including on issues dealing with eDiscovery, records retention, email archiving, content management, litigation and employment law, and corporate compliance. He is also a member of the litigation and employment law sections of the American, Massachusetts and Boston Bar Associations, the records retention subcommittee of the American Bar Association, as well as the Association of Corporate Counsel and the New England Labor Counsel. Mr. Cohen is a graduate of Cornell University (B.A., cum laude, 1987) and a graduate of the University of Michigan Law School (J.D. 1991).

Prior to joining EMC in 1998, Mr. Cohen was a member of the employment department of Goodwin, Procter LLP, and prior to that was a litigation associate at Hale and Dorr LLP. He lives in Northborough, Massachusetts with his wife and three children.
